So that's me...
The picture was taken in a gorge in the south of Crete, where I spent my last summer vacation.
I have studied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Musicology at the University of Basel, Switzerland. In my diploma thesis I developed a fast algorithm for computing the Khovanov homology of Slalom knots.
After my studies I was doing my civilian service in the Institute of Botany of the University of Basel, at the Swiss Orchid Foundation at the Herbarium Jany Renz. Some database engineering was part of my job there.
In January 2007, I have started my PhD in Computer Science. I am working on a non-linear, non-convex optimization problem for Hyperthermia cancer treatment planning.
In my spare time (which for the time being I actually don't have) I like to write (hopefully useful) programs, some of which you have found on this site.
I also like to play and compose music, and dance, cf. www.blickfang-showtanz.ch.
For a sample of my compositorial work you may have a look at "Der Panther": a scoring of a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke:
- Download the score: Panther.pdf
- Listen: Panther.mp3
Perhaps you still want to know what thyanté means. Well, actually nothing. I just needed a name that didn't exist yet. So I asked my random generator... But I can tell you how I like to pronounce it: [θian'te:].
